Saint-Jean Technical College – Boiler plant interconnection
The project in pictures
Saint-Jean Technical College in Wavre is a secondary educational institution with two separate boiler plants supplying heat to different buildings across the campus. As energy requirements evolved and the school aimed to embrace a sustainable energy transition, a major technical intervention was required to interconnect the existing boiler plants and improve the overall heating infrastructure.
The project involved connecting the two existing boiler plants with three main objectives: interconnecting both systems to enable unified energy management, optimizing the hydronic distribution network to improve overall system performance, and preparing the infrastructure for the future integration of a biomass boiler as part of a gradual energy transition strategy.
The project required extensive piping works within an active school environment, involving strict scheduling constraints and rigorous coordination to minimize disruption to daily activities.
The installation and adaptation of hydraulic manifolds, optimization of the control system, and preparation for a future transition towards a biomass solution represented the main technical challenges of this demanding project. This intervention laid the foundation for the school’s long-term energy strategy.
